Welcome to RN Shipmates

Thanks for stopping by.

Firstly, some sad news.

It is with heavy heart that I have to announce the passing of Michael Crowe. Mike crossed the bar on the 5th October 2023 at St. Mary's Hospital, on the Isle of Wight, where he lived. Mike leaves behind Joan, his wife of 65 years, four children, a grandson, and a great-grandson.

Mike served his National Service in the Royal Navy initially at HMS Collingwood. He was also a member of the RNR. Mike subsequently started the HMS Collingwood Association and later The Royal Naval Electrical Branch Association

Mike set up the RNShipmates initially as a little magazine. The website was added later.

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have cross’d the bar.
Alfred, Lord Tennyson 1809–1892
